The Inspiration Behind Breakthrough

Breakthrough reflects the quiet but powerful moment when faith chooses to move forward, even before the path is fully revealed.
The horse emerges from darkness into light, symbolizing hope overcoming uncertainty, freedom from fear, and God’s faithfulness in every season. The light isn’t simply illuminating the subject—it represents the promise that God goes before us, making a way where one cannot yet be seen. When I saw the photo of Norbert, taken by Lori Ann Thwing I knew I had to draw it. It reflected my journey at that point in life and I wanted to reflect this in my drawing of it.
This drawing is a reminder that faith does not require us to see the destination. It simply asks us to trust the One who does.
As Ephesians 5:8 reminds us:
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
While Breakthrough features a horse, its true subject is not the animal itself. Horses are simply the language through which I tell stories of faith, hope, perseverance, redemption, and ultimately, God’s faithfulness.
Acrylic Facemount Prints
Each limited-edition artwork is produced using the museum-quality acrylic facemount process—an archival presentation chosen for its exceptional clarity, depth, and longevity.
Unlike images printed directly onto glass, which use ink applied to the glass surface, an acrylic facemount begins with a high-resolution archival photographic print. That print is then permanently bonded to optically clear acrylic using a UV-protective, pH-neutral adhesive.
The result is significantly greater image depth, richer color, sharper detail, and enhanced visual brilliance. This process is favored by many galleries, museums, and fine art collectors because it preserves the integrity of the artwork while providing a refined, contemporary presentation.

Living in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, I draw inspiration from the horses I work with every day. Their strength, dignity, and quiet beauty have become the canvas through which I tell stories of faith, hope, perseverance, and redemption.
Every piece begins with a message before it ever becomes a drawing.
I strive to create artwork that stirs something deeper—pieces that remind us of God’s faithfulness, encourage us to trust Him through the unknown, and point toward the beauty He can bring from even the darkest seasons.
Working almost exclusively in charcoal, I embrace both its depth and its simplicity. Charcoal allows light to emerge from darkness in a way that mirrors the stories behind my work. All my drawings are free hand, the highlights are intentional, every shadow has purpose, and every drawing reflects a lesson God has been teaching me.
